Citizen Media Dominates Winter Storm Coverage
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) January 30, 2008 -- When the big story breaks Citizen Media is providing the first and most dramatic images for local news departments. Media platform provider Cell Journalist and WKRN-TV in Nashville, TN proved that during a rare winter snow storm that ripped through the mid state.
The hardest hit areas were miles from downtown where all the market's television stations are located. While crews and trucks scrambled to get in place, WKRN-TV scooped the competition with dramatic eyewitness video from viewers. During extended special reports and early evening news programming Consumer Generated pictures and video dominated the breaking news coverage. Several hundred images and videos were submitted in just a few hours. Viewers heard the on-air call to action and sent in content from their camera phones and digital cameras.
Cell Journalist founder Parker Polidor had this to say, "Our technology allows news departments to screen and post images on-line and on-air in a matter of minutes. Local media executives are starting to realize this functionality is not a luxury, it is a critical tool during breaking news."
